What inspired you to make your blog Inspiring Actuaries?

I feel incredibly blessed to do a job that I genuinely enjoy showing up to each day. I want that for others and believe the actuarial profession could be a rewarding option for many! Unfortunately, this career is still not well known. I hope my blog can spread the word on this incredible opportunity and provide support to those interested in it!

When did you first start your blog?

I first launched my blog and Instagram account in January 2021. I have since launched a YouTube channel and TikTok to reach more students and create content in different formats!

Where can people access your blog?

My blog is at InspiringActuaries.com. You can find links to my other social accounts there too!

Why do you think it’s beneficial for the actuarial community to have access to this information?

One of my favorite parts of starting a blog is that it has allowed me to share some really personal and vulnerable parts of my life. While I want to provide practical tips, I think it’s just as important to provide encouragement and hope. Actuarial exams are REALLY hard! It’s critical for students to know that it’s completely normal to struggle and they are not alone.

What have been some of your recent favorite blog topics?

I think my favorite topic is the “Start to Finish Study Tips.” This post is a deep dive into how to prepare effectively for actuarial exams. I poured so much time and heart into this one! It’s a very relevant and important topic for anyone wanting to become an actuary. I included so many tips and tricks that I learned from over 7 years of studying for actuarial exams myself!

What’s the best advice someone in the actuarial field has given you?

Communicate your needs and accept help! Passing actuarial exams is a team effort. You need people around you who understand what you’re going through and can provide support when you have to study. This includes family and friends of course, but just as critical is a work environment that allows you to prioritize actuarial exams. You need to keep your boss informed about your progress and if your workload gets too much, especially in the weeks leading up to an exam.
